Shakopee is a beautiful city in Scott County. It is located southwest of Minneapolis and Saint Paul along the Minnesota River in the southwestern part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Shakopee History

The city was originally a stop on a stagecoach route between Saint Paul and Iowa City, Iowa. By the 1860s, several railroads had converged on Shakopee, making it an important regional hub. The population exploded in the late 19th century, increasing from 593 in 1880 to 2,268 only ten years later. Shakopee was incorporated as a village in 1857 and became a city in 1880. The town's economy was originally based on agriculture, but it shifted to manufacturing in the late 19th century. Shakopee also has a long history of brewing beer, with several local breweries operating in the 19th century. The city's first brewery, the Horizon Brewery, was established in 1856. Today, the city is home to the Schell's Brewery, the second oldest family-owned brewery in the United States. There is much to learn about Shakopee's fascinating history!
